संतांचीं उच्छिष्टें बोलतों उत्तरें
। काय म्यां गव्हारें जाणावें हें ॥१॥
विठ्ठलाचे नाम घेता नये शुद्ध
। तेथें मज बोध काय कळे ॥२॥
करितो कवित्व बोबडा उत्तरी ।
झणी मजवरी कोप धरा ॥३॥
काय माझी याति नेणां हा विचार
। काय मी तें फार बोलों नेणें ॥४॥
तुका म्हणे मज बोलवितो देव ।
अर्थ गुह्य भाव तोचि जाणे ॥५॥
Roman Text
1. Santaanchee ucchishte bolato uttare, kaay mya gavhaare jaanaave he
2. Vitthalaache naam gheta naye shuddha, tethe maj bodh kaay kale
3. Karito kavitva bobadya uttaree, jhanee majavaree kop dhara
4. Kaay maajhee yaatee nena haa vichar, kaay mee te faar bolo nene
5. Tuka mhane maj bolavito dev, artha guhya bhaav tochi jaane.
Translation
This is a very important abhang because it gives a clear indication that Saint Tukaram had a direct experience of God. That is the reason he has repeatedly said that God makes him speak or God speaks through his mouth. There are many such abhangs in which he he has given these indications.
1. Everything that I speak is only a repetition of what great saints have said in the past. I am not saying anything original. What knowledge would an uneducated person like me have?
2. I cannot even chant the name of Shri Vitthal properly. How can I get the knowledge possessed by persons of self-realization?
3. Whatever poetry I am writing is like a child blabbering something, while trying to speak. Please do not be angry with me for that.
4. What is my cast, what is the authority, with which I am speaking? (I have none). Please do not think about these questions. Even I should better not talk about these things.
5. God makes me speak whatever comes out of my mouth. He alone knows if there is any hidden higher message in it and He alone knows the emotion with which these words have been spoken.
