Tukaram Gatha Abhanga 19 - Brahmadik jaya labhasi thengane - ब्रह्मादिक जया लाभासि ठेंगणें

ब्रह्मादिक जया लाभासि ठेंगणें। बळिये आम्ही भले शरणागत ॥१॥
कामनेच्या त्यागे भजनाचा लाभ। झाला पद्मनाभ सेवाऋणी ॥२॥
कामधेनूचिया क्षीरा पार नाही। इच्छेचिये वाही वरुषावे ॥३॥
बैसलिये ठायीं लागले भरते। त्रिपुटीवरते भेदी ऐसे ॥४॥
हारि नाही आम्हा विष्णुदासा जगी। नारायण अंगी विसावला ॥५॥
तुका म्हणे बहु लाठे हे भोजन। नाही रिता कोण रहात राहो ॥६॥

English

1. Brahmadik jaya labhasi thengane, baliye aamhi sharanaagat
2. Kaamanechya tyaage bhajanaacha laabh, zala Padmanabh
sevarunee
3. Kaamdhenuchiya ksheera paar nahee, icchechiye vahee
varushave
4. Baisaliye thaayee laagale bharate, triputivarate bhedee aise
5. Haari nahi amha vishnudaasaa jagee, Narayan angee
visavalaa
6. Tuka mhane bahu laathe he bhojan, nahi rita kon rahaat
raho.

Translation

Saint Tukaram had transcended the Trinity of subject, object and the seer. He is saying that he achieved this by renouncing material desires and resorting to chanting of God's name and glory.

1. I have earned the company of God Himself, a gain far greater than the gains which can be reached by even Brahma and others. I have emerged as a very strong person by surrendering at the Lord's feet.

2. I have renounced my material desires and taken to worshipping God by devotional singing. As a result, I received the gift of penchant for devotional singing. The Lord Padmanabh (one name of Lord Krishna, meaning, one whose navel is like a lotus) has become indebted to me (because he has received and liked my service to Him).

3. Devotion to God is like the milk from a Kamadhenu cow. Just like her, the unceasing shower of the milk of devotion keeps pouring on the devotee, as much as he desires.

(Kamadhenu is a holy cow who emerged out of the ocean when the Gods and the demons churned the ocean to obtain amrut, or elixir. She has several blessing powers and can fulfill a person's wishes. Even if someone looks at her, he is blessed. She is capable of giving unceasing, unlimited quantity of milk).

4. The devotee, consuming this milk of devotion, becomes ecstatic and transcends the Trinity. Subject, object and the seer, are transcended and he reaches the 'Unity'.

5. We, the worshippers of Lord Vishnu (Vaishnavites) are invincible in this world because the Lord Narayana Himself has blessed us with His presence in our hearts.

6. Tuka says, the meal of God Realization is very large (highly satisfying). Having obtained it, one cannot remain hungry, even if he tries.
