Translation
In this abhanga, Tukoba is stressing the important of fasting of 'Ekadashi', the eleventh day of a lunar calendar cycle of 15 days (There are two such ekadashis in every lunar month. Many people observe fast on this day). Tukoba is using a strong language to caution about the consequences if someone doesn't follow his established tradition.
- A person, who doesn't practice fasting on all ekadashis, even though alive, is as good as a dead man in the society.
- The deity of death, Yama, is counting every day lived by such a person (eagerly waiting to finish his life). Yama is clenching his teeth with anger.
- A person's house without a Basil plant at the entrance, should be considered equivalent to a funeral place (inauspicious).
- A person, in whose clan, there is not even one person who worships Lord Vishnu (God), should consider that his boat for crossing the river of this material world is sunk!
- A person whose mouth does not chant the name of the Lord (Vitthal, Krishna, Rama or any name of God); his mouth is just like a dirty tank of water used by a cobbler for washing leather footwear.
- Tuka says, consider the hands and legs of a person as worthless as wood, if he doesn't go to attend a kirtan (a program in which several people come together and sing God's name and glory in verses).
