Tukaram Gatha Abhanga 12 - Harichya jagarana

हरीच्या जागरणा । जातां कां रे नये मना ||१||

कोठें पाहासील तुटी । आयुष्य वेचें फुकासाठी ||२||

ज्यांची तुज गुंती । ते तों मोकलिती अंती ||३||

तुका म्हणे बरा । लाभ काय तो विचारा ||४||

Reading in English

1. Harichya jagarana, jata kare naye mana
2. Kothe pahaseel tuti, ayushya veche fukasathee
3. Jyanchee tuj guntee, te to mokalitee antee
4. Tuka mhane bara, laabh kaay to vichara.
   
   

Translation

This is an abhanga in which Saint Tukaram is counseling the mind to worship God instead of getting entangled in people in the material world.

1. Oh mind! Why don't you go to a place where God is worshipped in chants and sermons?
2. Where will you make up for the loss that you are incurring (by your entanglement in the material world)? Your life is getting wasted for nothing!
3. The people (wife, children, relatives and others) to whom you are attached so much will ultimately leave you when the end comes!
4. Please think only about getting Self Realization, which alone is the best treasure to work for.
