Tukaram Gatha Abhang 31

तेलणीशीं रुसला वेडा । रागें कोरडें खातो भिडा ।।१।।
आपुलें हित आपण पाहीं । संकोच तो न धरीं कांहीं ।।२।।
नाडिलें लोकां टाकिला गोहो । बोडिलें डोकें सांडिला मोहो ।।३।।
शेजारणीच्या गेली रागें । कुतऱ्यांनी घर भरिले मागें ।।४।।
पिसारागें भाजिलें घर । नागविले ते नेणे फार ।।५।।
तुका म्हणे वाच्या रागें । फेडिलें सावलें देखिलें जगें ।।६।।

English

1. Telanisi rusala weda,raage korade khato bhida
2. Aapale hit aapan pahee, sankoch to na dharee kahee
3. Naadile lokaa takilaa goho, bodile doke sandilaa moho
4. Shejarnichyaa gelee raage, kutryani ghar bharile maage
5. Pisaraage bhajile ghar, naagvile te nene phaar
6. Tukaa mhane vachyaa raage, phedile saavale dekhile jage

Translation

In this abhanga, Tukoba is describing how some people make a fool of themselves by not taking into account what is in their own interest. In the process, they suffer heavily.

1. One stupid person quarreled with the oil seller woman, became very upset with her and started consuming dry food (without oil) at home; because he was too shy go to her.
2. He should see what is in his best interest and behave accordingly without keeping grudge or shyness in his attitude. Otherwise he is going to suffer and make a fool of himself.
3. An idiotic woman, motivated by a desire to trouble certain people, left her husband and got her head shaved completely (did away with her attachment to her hair). In this process, she alone suffered.
4. Another stupid woman had a fight with her neighbor and in anger, she left her house, leaving the door open. Later, her house got occupied with stray dogs.
5. A man became very angry with the fleas which had infested his house and set his whole house on fire. In the process, he suffered heavy losses.
6. A dirty woman got very angry with the numerous lice which had infested her saree, but in that anger, she undraped her saree completely. The world saw her nude and she made a fool of herself.
