It is said that surrender is the best way to reach
the God. If God decides to take mercy on someone, then He instantly goes to
meet that distressed devotee and blesses him. Saint Tukaram had to face several
severe crises in his life. He is telling the Lord in this Abhang that he is
completely exhausted. He is desperately pleading Him to come to him and relieve
him from the binding with the burdensome cycles of births and deaths.
2. So, I have remembered Your feet. I have remembered
You. Oh my Motherly Lord Panduranga! Please come to me immediately!
3. I have been carrying the heavy burden of
virtuous acts (punya) and sins (papa) for many births. I do not know the secret
for escaping from this cycle of births and deaths.
4. I have been surrounded internally by the thieves
of the six vices and externally by the thieves in the form of my family
members, relatives and friends. Nobody takes mercy on me.
(Six vices: Kama = Desire, Krodha = Anger, Lobha =
Attachment, Moha = Temptation, Mada = Intoxication, excessive pride, Matsar =
Jealousy).
5. I have become lame. I have been stripped off
everything. I am very much anguished.
6. Tuka says, Oh God, please come to my rescue
immediately. It is very well known in this world that You are The Avowed
Saviour of the poor.
