नाम म्हणतां मोक्ष नाहीं । ऐसा उपदेश करितील कांहीं । बधिर व्हावें त्याचे ठायीं । दुष्ट वचन वाक्य तें ॥१॥
जयाचे राहिलें मानसीं । तें चि पावले तयासी । चांचपडतां मेलीं पिसीं । भलतैसीं वाचाळें ॥२॥
नवविधीचा निषेध । जेणें मुखें करिती वाद । जन्मा आले निंद्य । शूकरयाती संसारा ॥३॥
काय सांगों वेळोवेळां । आठव नाहीं चांडाळा । नामासाठीं बाळा । क्षीरसागरीं कोंडिलें ॥४॥
आपुलिया नामासाठीं । लागे शंखासुरापाठीं । फोडोनियां पोटीं । वेद चारी काढिले ॥५॥
जगीं प्रसिद्ध हे बोली । नामें गणिका तारिली । आणिकें ही उद्धरिलीं । पातकी महादोषी ॥६॥
जे हे पवाडे गर्जती । नाम प्रल्हादाच्या चित्तीं । जळतां बुडतां घातीं । राखे हातीं विषाचे ॥७॥
काय सांगों ऐशीं कीर्ती ।  तुका म्हणे नामख्याती । नरकाप्रती जाती । निषेधिती तीं एकें ॥ ८॥

1. Naam mhanataa moksha naahee, aisaa upadesh kariteel kaahee,

    badhir vhaave tyaache thaayee, dushta vachan vaakya te

2. Jayaache raahile maanasee, te chi paavale tayaasee,

    chaachapadataa melee pisee, bhalataisee vaachaale

3. Navavidheechaa nishedh, jene mukhe karitee vaad,

    janmaa aale nindya, shookarayaatee sansaara

4. Kaay saango velovela, aathav naahee chaandaala,

    namaasaathee baala, ksheerasaagaree kondile

5. Aapuliyaa naamaasaathee, laage shankhaasuraapaathee,

    fodoniyaa potee, ved chaaree kaadhile

6. Jagee prasiddha he bolee, naame ganika taarilee,

    aanike hee uddharilee, paatakee mahaadoshee

7. Je he pavaade garajatee, naam pralhaadaachyaa chittee,

    jalataa budataa ghaatee, raakhe haatee vishaache

8. Kaay saango aishee kirtee, tuka mhane naamakhyaatee,

   narakaapratee jaatee, nishedhitee tee eke.

 

Translation

1. If someone in their talks or sermons tells you that you don't get salvation just by chanting God's name, then you should cover your ears and pretend to be deaf. Don't even listen to those bad words.

2. If someone wants worldly pleasures or salvation, God's name alone can fulfill their wish. But many foolish people talk uselessly and die searching for God in vain.

3. Those who criticize the nine types of devotion and argue about them - know that they are born in this world as pigs, which is a shameful birth for humans.

4. Hey wicked person! How many times do I have to tell you? No matter how much I say, you never remember. Because of this name, Lord Shrihari even put the young child named Upamanyu in the ocean of milk so he could drink it. He gave him the entire ocean of milk!

5. When the demon Shankhasur stole the Vedas (holy books), Brahma (the creator god) praised God using His name. That's why, proud of His name, Lord Shrihari went after Shankhasura, tore open his stomach, and brought back the four Vedas.

6. God's name alone saved a famous woman in the world named Ganika. In the same way, it saved Ajamil and other sinners.

7. God's name was in the heart of Prahlad, whose greatness the Puranas loudly proclaim. When he was burning in fire, drowning in water, being attacked by weapons, and even when poison was given to him to drink, it was the name that protected him in all those situations.

8. Tuka says, how many stories can I tell about His name? The importance and glory of God's name are very great. Those who criticize the name will go to hell.
