 Gatha Abhang 933 - Kaa jee dharile naam

कां जी धरिलें नाम । तुम्ही असोनि निष्काम ॥१॥

कोणां सांगतसां ज्ञान । ठकाठकीचें लक्षण ॥२॥

आवडीनें नाचें । आहे तरी पुढें साचें ॥३॥

तुका म्हणे प्रेम । नाहीं भंगायाचें काम ॥४॥

1. Kaa jee dharile naam, tumhee asoni nishkaam

2. Konaa saangatasaa dnyaan, thakaathakeeche lakshan

3. Aavadeene naache, aahe taree pudhe saache

4. Tuka mhane prem, naahee bhangaayaache kaam.

Translation

This abhang emphasizes the importance of devotion to the Saguna (God with form and qualities) and aims to create deep love for it. From this perspective, the poet says that Nirguna (formless, attributeless) is not the truth, but the Saguna form is real.

1. O God! If You are truly without desire and beyond name and form, then why have You taken the name 'Vitthal' and the form with 'equal feet'?

2. When You are clearly visible in a divine form, why do You claim to be beyond name and form? This seems like a trick to confuse innocent devotees.

3. We will not be deceived by such so-called knowledge. The divine form that appears before us is the real truth, and we will joyfully dance in love of Your name.

4. Tuka says, Your misleading talk about formless knowledge will never break our love for Your beautiful form.
