 Gatha Abhang 936 - Shishyaanchee jo neghe seva

शिष्यांची जो नेघे सेवा । मानी देवासारिखें ॥१॥

त्याचा फळे उपदेश । आणिकां दोष उफराटे ॥२॥

त्याचें खरें ब्रम्हज्ञान । उदासीन देहभावीं ॥३॥

तुका म्हणे सत्य सांगें । येवोत रागें येतील ते ॥४॥

1. Shishyaanchee jo neghe seva, maanee devaasaarikhe

2. Tyaachaa fale upadesh, aanikaa dosha ufaraate

3. Tyaache khare bramhadyaan, udaaseen dehabhaavee

4. Tuka mhane satya saange, yevot raage yeteel te.

Translation

1. A true guru is one who doesn't take service from their students. Instead, they treat the student with the same respect one would give to God.

2. The teachings of such a guru bear fruit (are effective). If other gurus give advice, it's the guru who ends up getting tarnished with a bad karma on his record. He is committing a fault.

3. Someone who is detached from their physical body and worldly concerns possesses true knowledge of Brahman (the ultimate reality).

4. Tuka says, I am telling the truth, and if anyone gets angry at this, let them be angry.
