Gatha Abhang 930 – Saahoniyaa tole uravaave saar -

 Gatha Abhang 930 – Saahoniyaa tole uravaave saar

Marathi Text

Roman Script

1. Saahoniyaa tole uravaave saar, maga angeekar kharyaa mole

2. Bhogaache saambhaalee dyaave kalevar, sanchitaache thaar modooniyaa

3. Mahattvaache thaayee bhogaavee apratisthaa, vitavaave nashtaa panchabhootaa

4. Tuka mhane maga kaichaa sanvasaar, jayaachaa aadar techi vhaave.

Translation

1. Just as a diamond retains its true nature even after enduring the blows of a hammer - and it is precisely this unchanging quality that gives it value and leads the world to accept it. In the same way, when a person does not lose their true self despite facing repeated attacks from the world, their worth becomes evident, and even God accepts them.

2. With the help of knowledge, one should break the foundation of ignorance that supports accumulated (sanchit) and current (kriyamana) karmas, and surrender the body to destiny (prarabdha). Then, even if the body experiences pleasure or pain, the mind remains unaffected due to its union with knowledge, and no sorrow arises within.

3. Where there is an opportunity to receive honor and recognition, one should deliberately choose to face dishonor and insult instead. One should criticize the body composed of the perishable five elements and the five sense objects. By doing so, attachment to honor, respect, the body, and the sensory pleasures no longer remains.

4. Tuka says, once such a state is firmly established within, how can worldly attachments trouble that person? That person becomes what they admire. If one has great respect for God, they become one with the Divine and experience true joy.

3. I know no other truth apart from Vitthal, because His feet - His forms, 'Saguna' (with qualities) and 'Nirguna' (without qualities) - are both the cause and support of this whole world.

Translation

1. Oh God! I will continue to do the profession that has come into my life. But let my faith always remain at Your feet.

2. Oh Giver of all, You have bound us to action (karma). So what power do we really have before You? Only after carrying the burden of worldly life will we find rest.

3. But please, do this much for me. Let this body go on doing its duties in the world, but do not let my mind lose the secret of seeking You.

4. This restless body will keep dragging me from one place to another. It won’t let me stay in one spot. But please don’t let laziness enter my mind, when it comes to thinking about You.

5. Let the senses carry on with their own business, but please give my love a place for rest at Your feet.

6. Tuka says, Oh God! Do whatever You wish, but do not hand me over to the deity of death. That’s why I have come to You with folded hands, in deep surrender.

Lord Vithoba protected OUR GREAT EMPEROR SHIVAJI MAHARAJ & SWARAJYA.

Once Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was attending a kirtan of Sant Tukaram in Lohagaon. Enemy attacked the place and there was ABSOLUTE DANGER to Swarajya. Maharaj prayed to Lord Vitthal with the following abhang and a MIRACLE took place. Lord made everyone in the hall look exactly like Shivaji Maharaj. The enemy soldiers got completely confused and didn't know whom to catch!

Shivaji Maharaj coolly exited the hall!

Lord Vithoba protected OUR GREAT EMPEROR & SWARAJYA.

Excellent read for those who
1. Didn't know this
2. Don't believe in miracles and
3. Love Tukaram Maharaj, Shivaji Maharaj and Vithoba!
4. Love saint poetry!

Tukaram Gatha Abhang 274 - Na dekhave dola aisa ha
Marathi Text

Roman Script
1. Na dekhave dola aisa ha aakaant, parpeede chhita dukhhi hote
3. Parachakra kothe Haridaasaachya vaase, na dekhijet deshe raahaatiya
4. Tuka mhane maajhi laajavilee seva, heenapan deva jine jhaale.

Translation
Saint Tukaram got inspiration to sing this abhang when a group of enemy soldiers attacked the place where he was performing a kirtana. He is upset with the Lord and is telling him that He has brought to shame the service Saint Tukaram has given to the Lord.
1. I cannot bear the sight of this tragedy with my own eyes. My heart is pained when anyone else is tortured.
2. Oh God! It appears that you are not present at this place at this movement! I should not see such tragedy henceforth.
3. Is it really possible that a place of devotees of the Lord is surrounded by enemies? The country in which devotees of God live should not even see such sorrow (not to speak of experiencing it)!

4. Tuka says, oh God! You have brought to shame all the service that I have given to You. My life has become very miserable because of this tragedy.

Gatha Abhang 927– Bharalaa dise haat -

 Gatha Abhang 927– Bharalaa dise haat

Marathi Text

Roman Script

1. Bharalaa dise haat, avaghee vaadhalee khatapat,

    sanchitaache vaat, vaataaunee faankatee

2. Bhogaa aise thaayaathaav, karmaa trividhaache bhaav,

    drashtaa yethe dev, virahit sankalpa

3. Dilaa paaduniyaa dhadaa, paapapunyaachaa nivaadaa,

    aacharatee godaa, aacharane aapulaalyaa

4. Tuka mhane paraadheene, jaalee odhaliyaa rune,

     tutatee bandhane, jari devaa aalavitee.

Translation

1. Everywhere you look, the market of worldly life is bustling. In this market, people are constantly busy performing all kinds of actions. To enter this market, one must follow the path laid by past actions (karma). Once done with their business, people again disperse along the same path of accumulated karma.

2. All over the place, goods of pleasure and enjoyment are displayed. The cost of these goods is paid through the three types of karmas (Sattvik, Rajas and Tamasik). One must act (do karma) to buy and enjoy these pleasures. This entire market is overseen by Lord Vitthal, who is beyond all thought and desire. Yet silently, He watches over everything.

3. It is this very God who has set up this worldly market. He alone decides the rewards and punishments for virtues and sins - based on one’s actions. In this world, each person acts according to his own will, and through his actions, he earns either sin or merit.

4. Tuka says, all people in this world are dragged into the prison of birth and death because of the debts of their sins and merits. Thus, they become helpless and bound. But if they call upon God with devotion, their chains will break, and they will be freed.
